Tehran’s Eshraq Cultural Center will host the first edition of a mime festival from February 6 to 9.

The festival was planned to be held in summer 2009 but was postponed due to financial problems, the festival’s organizer Bahram

Reihani told ISNA. He went on to say that the festival will be held in two Professional and Amateur sections and that between 12

and 15 performances will go on stage during the event.

Reihani also expressed his thanks to the Eshraq Cultural Center officials as well as the Theater Department of the Art and Cultural Organization of Tehran Municipality. “The festival aims to boost the art of mime in public and also to discover and develop young talented artists,” he mentioned. Workshops and meetings will be held before the beginning of the festival to improve the quality of the participants’ performances, he said. The festival’s call for participation will be sent to all cultural centers, art academies and universities in the near future, he concluded.

Eshraq Cultural Center Director Ahmad Mayel has been appointed as secretary of the festival.
