29th Fajr Intl. Film Festival

The Fajr International Film Festival, Iran’s most important film gala, was inaugurated Friday during a ceremony held at Tehran’s Milad Tower attended by hundreds of cineastes and film fans.

Over 30 films will be competing at the Iran Cinema Section, while thirteen foreign films will vie at the International Section of the festival this year.

Iranian film critics awards

The Society for Cinema Critics and Screenwriters of Iran gave its top motion picture honor to “Punishment” at its fourth annual ceremony Friday night.

The annual awards that also honored several others, were held this year at the Arasbaran Cultural Center and were attended by a group of cineastes, writers, critics and the media.

Fajr Intl. Film Festival announces jury

The 29th Fajr International Film Festival announced members of the jury for different sections.

Actor Jahangir Alamasi, Political science professor Hassan Abbasi, directors Abolqasem Talebi, Jaber Qasemali and Ali Moalem and musician Majid Entezami will judge the Iran Cinema Competition Section. Actress Parvaneh Masumi, journalist Vahid Jalili together with cineastes Fereydun Jeyrani, Ensieh Shah-Hosseini and Saeid Soheili will judge the First Film Section of the festival. Nominees of 10th Ghanipur Award

The assessment team of Teen subcategory of 10th Shahid Ghanipour Award nominated 7 books for the final award.

According to the website of the 10th Shahid Habib Ghanipour Award, the seven selected works of Teens section are announced as the following: - "…And Good Replied", written by Sousan Taghdis, - "Three Vases", written by Ahmadreza Ahmadi, - "Deep Dive" compiled by Jamshid Khanian, - "Plains Guardian" penned by Ahmad Dehghan

Intl. Persian language congress opens

About 250 foreign scholars are expected to attend the International Congress of World Teachers of Persian Language and Literature opening tomorrow at the University of Tehran.

The two-day biennial aims to provide an opportunity for the participants to exchange viewpoints on methods of teaching the Persian language, said secretary of the congress Abbas-Ali Vafaii in a press release on Monday. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to attend the opening ceremony along with the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance

Fajr Intl. Theater Festival - national programmes

The Fajr International Theater Festival, which will be held from February 12 to 20 in Tehran, announced its programs for the national section during press conference on Monday.

Theater workshops will be held simultaneously in Tehran and capitals of provinces from February 5 to 12, the secretary of the festival Mohammad Heidari mentioned at the conference. The stage, street and international performances will go on stage in Tehran’s theaters from February 20, he added. In the regional theater section, twelve plays, which were the Marivan National Theater Festival winners from eleven provinces, will go on stage during the festival, he mentioned.

Sacred Defense short story festival

The secretary of the 4th Sacred Defense short story festival said that the festival will conclude on January 30 and added:" A selection of the top works will be published as a book entitled "Yousef 4"."

As the authors received the 4th literary Yousef Award, Kamran Parsi-nejhad said:" As the award was welcomed warmly, we preferred to postpone the closing ceremony in order to evaluate the works better.

Films submitted for 29th Fajr festival

Over 70 films have applied for entry to the Iranian Films Section at the 29th Fajr International Film Festival.

The final list is almost complete, Festival secretary Mehdi Masudshahi told the Persian service of IRNA, adding that the sheer number of movies would make it hard for the selection board to choose the best.

The 29th edition of the festival, which is Iran’s most important cinematic event of the year, will run from February 5 to 15 at Tehran’s Milad Tower.

8th Intl. sport filmfest

The Niavaran Cultural Center is currently hosting the 8th edition of the Tehran International Sport Movies and TV Festival.

Ffrom total of 126 works submitted, 75 movies by 69 directors were selected and will go on screen at the festival.

4th International Bidel Dehlavi Congress

The 4th International Bidel Dehlavi Congress will be held on 18th and 19th May 2011 by Kanoon of Iranian Literature.

According to the Kanoon of Iranian Literature, all researchers and scholars working on Bidel Dehlavi or the presence and effects of hundreds years of Persian Language and Literature residence in India can submit their articles to the secretariat of this congress no later than 6 March 2011.
