Iran's third Zagros music festival has kicked off in the country's western city of Boroujen in Chahar-Mahal Bakhtiari Province.

The festival hosts musicians and ensembles from provinces located in Iran's Zagros region, which spans the whole length of the western and southwestern Iranian plateau.

Fourteen ensembles and 28 soloists from Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Luristan, Ilam, Isfahan, Chahar-Mahal and Bakhtiari, Khuzestan and Kohkilouyeh-Boyerahmad Provinces have participated in the event.

Artists from Tehran, Markazi, Sistan-Baluchestan and Bushehr Provinces will also perform as guest participants in this year's festival, which started on August 6, 2009.

Some 150 compositions have been submitted to the festival, 30 of which have been accepted and will compete during the three-day event.

Twelve soloists and three ensembles will be announced as winners during the closing ceremony on August 8.
