The contest began on July 19 on the occasion of Mab’ath, the anniversary of the appointment of Hazrat Muhammad (S) to prophethood until the anniversary of the birth of Imam Hossein (AS) on July 24.
A total of 1633 participants from over 50 countries took part in this event. The contest was held in three sections of recitation of the Quran, memorization of the Quran and articles on Quranic issues.

In the recitation of the Quran section, Iranian were winners of the second to fifth titles respectively.

In the memorization of the Quran section, Shoja Zavidat from Iran took the first place award. Abdullah Ahmad Anis from Syria, Mohammad Al-Kufri from Lebanon, Abdulhamid Nasr Mohammad Kashidan from Libya, and Sheikh Tijan Dungu from Senegal took the second to fifth awards.

The International jury of the Quran competition awarded honorary plaques to Abdorrasul Abaii, filmmaker Farajollah Salahshur, Quran researcher Amir-Mahmud Kashefi, cultural figure Nasrollah Chamran, calligrapher Kazem Sadeq-Najafi, Quran reciter Karim Mansuri, and Hojjatoleslam Mohsen Qeraati for their lifetime activities in promoting the Quran.

A new recitation by international Quran reciter Karim Mansuri was also introduced at the ceremony.
