Artists from more than 60 countries are set to take part in the 7th edition of Tehran International Animation Festival in the Iranian capital.
“Animators from 66 countries will participate in this year's event which will be held from March 6 to 10, 2011,” head of Iran's Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults Seyyed Reza Sadeqi told reporters.

According to the festival director Mohammad-Reza Karimi-Saremi, some 830 Iranian productions have been submitted to the event from which 91 films will take part in the national competition section.

Some 181 animations will also participate in this year's international competition section, he added.

Hamid Gerogan, Mohammad-Hossein Niroumand, Bahram Azimi, Hamid Bahrami and Mahin Javaherian will judge participants of the national competition section while Firdoze Bulbulia, Tyron Montgomery, Chris Lavis and Vajihollah Fard-Moqaddam will serve on the jury of the international section.

The 2011 Tehran International Animation Festival will also present student films and feature-length animations from Iran and other countries such as Austria, Argentina, South Korea, France, the US, Malaysia, Turkey, Syria, Sweden, Germany, Cuba, Romania, Vietnam and China.

The selected films for the festival were chosen by a five-member selection committee composed of Alireza Kavianrad, Kiarash Zandi, Hossein Moradizadeh, Ravanbakhsh Sadeqi and Fatima Yasrebi.

The participating student films were selected by Alireza Golpaygani, Naser Gol-Mohammadi and Mohamad-Ali Safoura.

Saremi announced that five expert panels will be held on the sidelines of the festival discussing 'Aesthetics of 3D Digital Animations,' 'Role of Animation in 3D Presentation,' 'Suitable Strategies for Producing Feature-Length Animations in Iran,' 'Analyzing Music production for Animations in Iran' and 'Expanding the Animation Market with New Applications.'

The festival will also hold 13 educational workshops as well as discussion sessions where film critics will discuss 22 films from different sections of the event, IRNA reported.

Participating films will be screened in Tehran as well as Hamadan and Mazandaran provinces.
